STRATAs IN ALBERTA
VENUE 1008 - CALGARY
The use of strata titling in Alberta is on the rise. Higher profile developments, like the ICE District in Edmonton, are already well into development with more of them planned in the near future across Alberta.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A STRATA?
Strata titling is its own unique legal structure. Unlike British Columbia, where strata are basically a substitution for condominiums, Alberta's strata stand entirely apart from the Condominium Property Act. Strata developments each require their own legal contracts between all parties, and the rules governing them are contained within this contract.
To sort through the legal ramifications of strata developments we're bringing in lawyers and condominium law experts Bonnie Anderson of Bennett Jones LLP and Heather Bonnycastle Q.C. of McLeod Law LLP.
The other side of these developments is how to finance and insure them. We're throughoutly excited to bring on Greg Cortese and Tony Reed of BFL Insurance Services of Canada Ltd.
This luncheon will be packed full of information. We're expecting to cover the following topics:
- The advantages of strata titling
- The necessity of easement, covenant and restriction agreements (ECRAs)
- What ECRAs need to cover
- Concerns under the current building code
- How strata titling interacts with municipal bylaws
- Financing strata titles
- Insuring strata titles
